Two Oltrepò wine producers and a super dinner

When two wine producers join forces, the tasting dinner becomes a complete experience indeed, a double experience!
Wednesday, November 5, was an evening that knew how to intertwine taste, territory and conviviality with… our winery and that of Giulio Fiamberti, a historic winery in the Oltrepò Pavese area. Our wineries are both located in Canneto Pavese.

We chose to collaborate (this is not the first time, and we are certainly not stopping there) to accompany an exclusive dinner, where every dish was designed to be in harmony with our Oltrepò Pavese wines.

M.Maggi shows Fiamberti’s Historic Buttafuoco Vigna del Prete and G.Fiamberti shows Maggi’s Historic Buttafuoco Vigna Rogolino.

The location

🌃The setting was the Horti di Pavia, with its park, the view of the slow Ticino River in which the lights of the charming Borgo Basso opposite are reflected in the evening.
The atmosphere here is refined and exclusive, collected and cozy, and made the moment extremely pleasant.
The event allowed us to introduce our history that began really many years ago, sharing anecdotes and notions with the guests, such as that in the past the harvest took place in October and November, while now climate change has led us to anticipate and conclude operations between August and September, but our work is made up of love for our vineyards and continuous efforts to raise the quality level of our range of wines.

The protagonists

🍾Those who know Oltrepò Pavese and its wines know which grape varieties tell the story of the area: certainly Pinot Noir, Croatina, Riesling and Barbera.

The “double” taste pathway

The dinner opened with an appetizer of vegetable chips and two glasses: Atacama, Francesco Maggi’s Rosé Extra Dry Martinotti Method and Caristoro, Giulio Fiamberti’s sparkling wine Metodo Classico Extra Brut.
The second appetizer-with typical local cured meats-was accompanied by the two bonarde moves Fatum Francesco Maggi and La Briccona Giulia Fiamberti.

The risotto, on the other hand, was enjoyed with Riesling Renano Follia Francesco Maggi.

Our two Historic Buttafuoco arrived next with the main meat course:
Sacca del Prete Vineyard Fiamberti’s 2021 vintage and Vigna Costera 2022 by Francesco Maggi.
🍷This is a powerful, enveloping and evocative red wine that releases heady aromas and delivers intense and persistent flavors. A wine that is not to be forgotten.

And to close in beauty and goodness, a berry cheesecake was served with a red dessert wine: Sangue di Giuda Lella by Gulio Fiamberti.

Perhaps not everyone knows that the Blood of Judah is… the sweet brother of Buttafuoco! The grapes used are the same but the winemaking process is different: fermentation is stopped before all the sugars turn into alcohol, thus preserving a high residual sugar that makes it a dessert wine.

This was not just a food and wine event. It represented a true manifesto of collaboration: two realities of the same territory wishing to show all the value of the extraordinary territory that is Oltrepò Pavese!
