Wine & Food: Judas Blood and Black Forest Cake

Sangue di Giuda is a typical wine from Oltrepò Pavese and is one of the few red dessert wines in the world.
We are among the wineries that produce it. Being a sweet wine, it accompanies desserts, especially those with berries, plums, chocolate, cherries and sour cherries.

The pairing we propose for our Muntarüs is with a very good Black Forest cake.

Then it is off to Germany, exactly to the region of Baden-Württemberg where Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte was born.

This typical German cake is made of dark chocolate sponge cake, cherries in syrup or fresh and cream. The other ingredients are eggs, flour, sugar, butter, some kirsch and baking powder.

The steps are different and need to be done carefully to get soft but thick enough sponge cake disks so that they can be cut without breaking, the whipped cream needs to be the right consistency so that it will fill and cover the whole cake, and it takes some dexterity even in the decorating step with cream tufts, chocolate curls, and sour cherries, but it is absolutely worth it!

To make it easier for you to prepare, we refer to Cookist’s recipe.

Once ready to serve, you will see how our Judas Blood and Black Forest Cake will enhance each other!
Both have very intense and enveloping flavors, in both the taste of red berries stands out, and in addition the effervescence of the wine helps to mitigate the fattiness given by the whipped cream.

Just a nice way to end a meal: a slice of cake, a good glass of wine … and a smile!
